Dr. Elizabeth’s MAGIC - Injury Recall Technique
What is Injury Recall Technique?
Injury Recall Technique (IRT) is one of Dr. Walter Schmitt’s most highly regarded clinical innovations. IRT is a gentle technique used following either recent or long-standing injuries or trauma. It works by restoring muscle balance toward pre-injury status and may significantly reduce pain while improving range of motion.
In my practice, one of the very first things I do is assess injuries stored within your system.
It doesn’t matter if the injuries were from birth to said age now, they still have the potential to be affecting your nervous system.
When an injury occurs, the body retains a form of muscle memory related to that event. This response is known as the Muscle Withdrawal Response. While this response is highly effective in the short term, it can become problematic if it remains active long after the injury has healed.
You may feel as though you are standing or moving normally, when in reality the nervous system is still operating from an old injury pattern memory. This can result in some muscles working excessively while others remain inhibited.
Two common examples of the Muscle Withdrawal Response include:
Touching a hot stove and immediately pulling the hand away
Stepping on a sharp object and instinctively shifting weight to protect the injured foot
These responses are designed to prevent further injury. In an ideal scenario, they resolve once the threat has passed. However, when an injury is significant or prolonged, the withdrawal pattern may remain active within the nervous system.
IRT works by clearing the encoded trauma connection in the nervous system through a neurological process that links the area of injury with the body’s locking mechanism (the ankle mortise). This allows stored muscle memory to release so that the healing process can resume where it was previously interrupted.
Once injuries are assessed and cleared, I am able to gain a clearer, more accurate picture of what else may be occurring in the body. In some cases, muscles that previously tested weak may regain strength after injury patterns are cleared. In other cases, muscles that were over-facilitated may respond appropriately to muscle spindle cell (MSC) inhibition once injury-related stress has been resolved. In most cases, cleared injury patterns do not return unless there is an underlying or unresolved issue that needs further exploration in a subsequent session. I may also address shock, emotional trauma associated with the injury, and restoration of the body’s energetic blueprint (hologram) when indicated.
Common injuries I often see stored within the body include car accidents, whiplash, surgeries, broken bones, and ligament-based low back injuries.
Injuries that are often overlooked, but still matter, can include dental procedures (cleanings, braces, tooth extractions, wisdom teeth), minor rear-end collisions, blood draws or donations, knee injuries, rolled ankles, and ankle sprains.
Please note that when clearing injuries involving the ligaments of the low back, some tenderness or soreness may occur depending on individual sensitivity. Ice or heat is commonly recommended, along with any supportive remedies the body indicates. Many people report feeling more grounded and balanced after injury patterns are cleared.
Injury Recall Technique is used as part of my integrative sessions and is not offered as a standalone service. It is always assessed during initial sessions and revisited anytime a new injury or trauma presents.
